On the road again...

I am headed back out on the road.

I've been saying this for the past couple days... but have been unsuccessful in getting going.

This time I mean it! (Yeah right.)

While on the road I do not have access to the internet.

I expect to be gone for a few weeks.

David,

Don't know what part of the country you are mostly driving through but while down south this time I was amazed how much Wi-Fi there is - you find it at pretty much every motel on the way. I definitely think it is a good idea to have a Wi-Fi equipped notebook these days - and they are getting more and mroe affordable by the day, too.

Boris,

Some truck stops are starting to offer free wifi hookups. But they are few and far between.

If I signed up with any subscription Wifi provider their coverage is very spotty. They only provide coverage at their spots as if I could count on finding a place to park in their coverage every night.

Eventually someone is going to figure out how to do this. Some truckstops are adapting free wifi as an incentive to stop and shop there. I hope this becomes the standard. Competing subscription wifi is not going to work. I am not going to subscribe to all of them.

David,

I wasn't even talking subscribing to anybody. Sorry, I didn't make my point clear.

What I meant to say was that most hotels and motels I visited down south (much more than in this part of the country) were Wi-Fi spots and did not require any kind of subscription. And if you just sat in the lobby with your laptop no one would bother asking you if you were a guest or not.

Boris.
